Nautic Jobs arranged for me to start at Per Aarslef in Poland in June and the expectation is that the work will be completed by the end of 2012. Since large tankers have to moor in the harbour, the access channel will have to be deepened and a turning basin constructed. A total of more than 8 million cubic metre sand will be dredged and a 3.3-kilometre-long breakwater built to protect the harbour. A combination of small to large trailing suction hopper dredgers, floating cranes and dry earth moving equipment will be used for the project.

I board at a small house for 4 weeks and then go home for a week. In fact, I do a bit of everything: checking, maintaining and repairing machines and helping in general in the workshop; the official title on my card is ‘Superintendent’.

I must say that I have really had a great time; everything was very well organised and I cannot wait to be sent on another super job like this one.
